The Eyelash Perm Guide: The Cost, Safety, and Results
Think your lashes but, like, curlier.
The only thing more annoying than applying mascara every day is having to take it off every night (can I get an amen?!). In the past, having permanently curled, lifted lashes from the moment you wake up was virtually impossible, but thanks to the rise of lash lifts and eyelash perms, falsie-level lashes are slowly becoming the norm.
But if the idea of smearing chemical solutions that close to your eyeballs has you rethinking your dreams, allow the experts to answer all your ~burning~ questions before you, you know, accidentally burn your eyes. Here’s what Courtney Buhler, founder and CEO of Sugarlash PRO, and Ilyse Haberman, MD, ophthalmologist at NYU Langone Health, have to say about trying a lash perm for the first time. What’s the difference between lash lift and perm?
The goal of a lash lift and a lash perm is essentially the same: to curl and lift the base of your natural lashes using a chemical-based process. Although the terms are used interchangeably, technically they’re two different things. In general, Buhler says to think of a lash lift as a newer version of a lash perm that uses better techniques and formulas. The chemicals used and the results achieved can vary depending on the brand and the place you’re getting it done, so do your research and chat with the salon ahead of your appointment.
